Wahiba Chair is a technology entrepreneur who has recently taken place in the StarsOfScience world wide "reality TV" based science competition. She holds a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from San Francisco State University (started at UVic) and an MBA from Simon Fraser University. Wahiba has a strong passion for using technology as a mediating platform to help people become and stay healthy "on the go". As part of her Engineering Final Project (2005), she was the team lead designer on a calorie counting software that connects to a heart rate monitor. Since then, she has been involved in a number of health related software, specifically her current product, CarrotLines. The CarrotLines branding came about in the StarsOfScience show. The same project was recognized for the 2007 BC Innovation Council MBA Access to Commercialization Scholarship. Wahiba also engaged in obesity research in the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Metabolic and Nutrition Unit, published health related articles in the Epoch Times International and worked in the multivitamin and supplements industry. She calls herself a "non specialized" healthy lifestyler. She likes to use her own experiences and awareness to help friends and family stay healthy. Last year, she started up two companies: PortaLife Solutions, Inc. focused on mobile lifestyle software, and HYA Foods, a healthy baked goods company. She is now exploring her next steps to take her venture(s) off the ground timely in the right market(s). Wahiba has been a member of the Canadian Obesity Network (CON) for two years.
